Close

Backyard deck, Blacksburg, VA- Feb 15, 2012

We are getting close!

Quality control - Pepper Hoover tests and inspects the quilt I am working on.
(I had it on the deck- it was easier to add the binding there.)

Getting to the Heart of the Matter

Huckleberry Trail, Blacksburg, VA-May 2,2011

my small stone from April 30, 2011
returned to me today

I saw this heart in the light and shadow of this tree trunk today- and as I was taking the photo "Princess Pepper the Dog of Dogs", stuck her big fat nose right in the picture.

Grrr- Of course I took another one without her in it. Once home I realized that Pepper really knows how to get to the heart of the matter. Everyday she teaches me patience and shows me boundless love...so sheepishly I say, "sorry Pepper- you needed to be in the picture."

AND if you look close you just might see there is a heart shaped stone inside the shadow. Oh my goodness- right!?

I sent these hearts to my sister today-she seems a little blue... keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

these hearts are posted on my other blog-Our Wild Hearts

A Little Help

Blacksburg Virginia -April 9, 2011

The Big Event at Virginia Tech is a student-run community service effort that has grown into the 2nd largest event of its kind in the nation. Every spring, thousands of students, faculty, and staff come together to complete hundreds of community service projects throughout Blacksburg, Christiansburg and the New River Valley.

Projects are completed regardless of need or socioeconomic status; instead, it is The Big Event’s goal to simply say, “Thank you." Seeded in Virginia Tech's motto of Ut Prosim (That I may serve) students and community members come together for a truly unparalleled experience.

The Big Event: “One Big Day. One Big Thanks.”

For 5 years my husband said, " We can't participate in this event... "It is for people who need help." It took me 5 years- but I finally said- "You know what- you may not need help but I do."

So once again I am thoroughly amazed and blessed to have these students show up at my home and work for 2 hours to demolish 16 cubic yards of mulch. I love you guys. I love Virginia Tech.

Hangin' on by a Paw

 Blacksburg, VA- Nov 8, 2011
My brain was inactive as a worn out black lab.
While the poor kitty hung on by a paw.

Such a busy weekend. It is a good thing tomorrow is Monday.  The photo is old but captured just what I had to say. Thanks for all the great comments about my blogs new format.  I am thinking I don't like how the words from the post are running into the sidebar.  A problem for another day.

My Plan

Upstairs Sewing area. Blacksburg, VA- Jan 4, 2011

To finish the quilt top

Princess Peppers plan
To go on a two mile walk

Plans scatter like unsewn quilt pieces near an open window.

Tomorrow
My plan- to finish the quilt top.
It is ok to have plans -
but I am not inadequate if that plan goes for a walk

I have always had a hunch that my projects, endeavors, journeys
and in short my life
is poorly planned

It all stems from not hearing Gods will-maybe I am deaf.

So I will  balanced myself,
short circuiting the little whispers that say you have failed.
I know in my heart that despite all my faultiness
that everything is filled with beauty and love-
because love is bigger than all my unfinished endeavors.

Holding On

Dining room, Blacksburg, VA- Aug 5, 2010

Because I do not know how to begin

letting go-

Top of the Stairs, Blacksburg, VA- Aug 15, 2010

Maybe if I could finish something-

No I have finished many things.

Heritage Park, Blacksburg, VA-  Aug.7, 2010

Maybe if I could fly with wings that glisten -
but rest when needed-

No I  fly in my dreams and rest often.

Heritage Park, Blacksburg, VA- Aug 7, 2010

Maybe if I make a V as I swam across a pond,

No - now I am just being silly.
Silly is good-

But when my heart is heavy - and I cannot let go-
I will  hold on
I will  believe
in
