On Being Grateful

This post was written and is a part of Laura Hegfield's - Gratitude Quilt

                    The bedroom with a View, Blacksburg, VA-Nov 12, 2012

Doors wide open, I invite the mild November morning inside.

T
he red leaf maple casts her warmth into my heart,

while the gray sky sighs in muted reflection.
Crows and catbirds thrill their wings
and do not remember summer.
Chickadees and finches chitter into the day,
unaware of the lessons they teach.
I am alive in this moment.

My green tea cools as autumn slips into forgetting.

I am blessed with another day.

(From my other blog.)
small stone, with attitude. This was something I wrote just before finding what I was grateful for.

The red leaf maple shakes her leaves like lingerie,
exposing graceful branches.

End of October -Guest Post

Photography and words by Dan Habermehl*

Muted colors hidden in grey frost. Revealed brightly by the morning sun.
Wet leaves lightly dropping.
Yet there is not even the slightest breeze.

* Dan Habermehl lives in Cheektowaga, New York- near Buffalo. I think he would live down in in Allegheny County in a cabin on a piece of land and be content to talk to birds, trees and the sky. At least his gets to visit. He is one of my 5 siblings still living in New York State.

Just Around the Corner

Three Muses September 14th Challenge
Autumn

Huckleberry Trail, Blacksburg VA-Aug 17, 2011

Just Around the Corner

I took this photo for  my Wild Heart collection (stand on your head and you will see an a red heart hanging in this tree)back on August 17th.  My first thought was, "oh what a perfect heart". And the next thought was, "oh no!!! It is too soon!!"  It is now over  a month later I feel the same way. Autumn is official - I thank Marie over on Ozzstuff for posting this challenge over on the Three Muses blog and apologize for my tardy response!

Walking with Autumn

Huckleberry Trail, Blacksburg, VA- Nov 19, 2010
(click photo to enlarge)

Even while the color of autumn winds down- there are spots where a bit of warm, afternoon light will give that yellow leaf just the right amount of love to make it shine.

And in the underbrush you may find
some brilliant shades of red-
hoping to catch your eye.

But the rest of mother nature has let go of so many things.
as she prepares for winter.

Waiting to be Remembered

Backyard Garden, Blacksburg, VA- Nov 12, 2010

A Patiently Waiting Teapot

I let go
of believing

I should be something different to be loved.

 I let go
of tightly held
beliefs
that I must be something more.

In being emptied my heart is filled.

Full of thanks
Thankful

I return later to see I have left the lunchtime teapot-

It makes me smile as I carry the teapot back inside. It feels warm from the uncharacteristically warm November sunshine.
And so do I.

Tomorrow's Focus

One month ago.

Post Script 1-

One month ago what?

One month ago I attended a weekend seminar that illuminated my outlook on energy. How do I recognize and get healthy energy? How do I recognize and react to unhealthy energy?  The weekend left me drained- go figure.  So a month later - today I am revisiting that weekend.  I am 2/3 through my day now.

I am highly connected and therefore energized.

My focus has been to refocus.

Letting God be God
and
the source of my healthy energy.

Staying open to this healthy and grace filled energy, changes my perspective. This in turn creates less tension.
I breathe easier.

This all puts a new light on going with the flow.

And just how cool is that?   Ties in nicely with the photo.

Blessings -

Dan's Willow in Blacksburg

Blacksburg, VA - Nov. 16, 2009

Sometimes we give each other small blessings-
That only show their true color and worth after many years.
-
This willow has found it's most glorious self  20 years after it was planted.
A gift from my brother Dan - a small cutting wrapped in damp burlap- it certainly did not look like much.
But I accepted it with great joy,
knowing someday its graceful branches would bring me great peace.

-

Why is it so hard to wait while God reveals His plan.
We become tired.

Frustration sets in sapping every trace of patience and hope.
How can this situation ever become a blessing?

God's plentiful love like a willow in autumn-
scattering little golden leaves in abundance.

Thank-you Dan
