And  Patti spent the day looking for Eeyore while on vacation in Ireland.

And my sisters both texted me.

And my yoga teacher reminded me to smile.

And my husband is still in the country.

And it is going to be alright. 

What I have Been Up To

 SO as yesterdays post mentioned I am now 7 weeks out from rotator cuff surgery on my right shoulder.  I was released from my sling on Monday! A glorious day. Today is Thursday and what a difference 3 days make. First of all I am typing this with two hands-wow who knew how much quicker it is to type with two hands! I have increased my Physical Therapy regime and the pay back has been almost startling. On Monday I had to engage the parking brake on my car with my left hand (yes I have been ok'd to drive), yesterday I had enough strength to use my right arm and hand. SO while I still have PT three times a week and am doing a gajillion exercises at home, I hope to be back to blogging once or twice a week. BUT please note if I am ever not posting here I usually am posting to my Facebook page...

Below you will find what I have been up to over the last 3 weeks. Lots of photos, lots of gardening and a bit of sewing. Oh and I have my 18 year old nephew, Sebastian (I LOVE that name!) living with us until he starts college at Virginia Tech on August 27th. It has been so good to have a teenager back in the house. He is a great kid.

SO here are some photos of my little sewing project. What we have here is cotton clothesline wrapped in 3/4 strips of scrap fabric.I have lots of scrap fabric, (I love to quilt) but the clothes line and fabric were generously given to me by one of my quilting buddies. I was visiting my Tuesday quilting group and they were making these baskets. As I watched I thought I can wind fabric around clothesline... it will be good physical therapy. And it was, after 4 days of winding fabric I had enough to start sewing. All doubts that I could not sew one handed were erased once I started.  You have to love my finger nails- I don't even use nail polish very often- these were WILD. (Blame it on post surgery boredom)

Photo Fun Wednesday-unpaused

It is when time moves without my added effort. Days pass through the haze of sleep deprivation or pain meds. Last week slipped by due to a visit from my two sisters and a niece and nephew. My nephew needed to come down for his college orientation, he will attend Virginia Tech at the end of August. (so exited!)

Anyway here we are in week 5 after surgery for a torn rotator cuff.  I find myself here at 3 AM due to my shoulder screaming to change positions despite prescription sleep aids and pain meds- so I apologize if anything is amiss in this post----one handed typing is still quiet challenging. I am progressing steadily and even did a photo shoot with mt niece last week. It felt great to shoot a little bit again. I hope each of you are well.

I took this macro while waiting for my niece to change outfits- I love the bit of the sundial on the right. The red flower is called a cardinal flower-and my humming birds love them. It hides a little up-side-down-heart, to the very left.

Muted colors hidden in grey frost. Revealed brightly by the morning sun. 

Wet leaves lightly dropping. 

Yet there is not even the slightest breeze.

 

* Dan Habermehl lives in Cheektowaga, New York- near Buffalo. I think he would live down in in Allegheny County in a cabin on a piece of land and be content to talk to birds, trees and the sky. At least his gets to visit. He is one of my 5 siblings still living in New York State.

As If

As if I don't have enough to do.  As if there was not enough summer time color all around me. I found this in the archives (I was looking for old photos of my daughter for the wedding)  This little ditty caught my eye and I just had to play with it in photoshop. Enjoy!

Walking with Autumn

Even while the color of autumn winds down- there are spots where a bit of warm, afternoon light will give that yellow leaf just the right amount of love to make it shine.

And in the underbrush you may find
some brilliant shades of red-

hoping to catch your eye.

 

But the rest of mother nature has let go of so many things.

as she prepares for winter.

I have been working on this quilt for our bed- since January. I have completed the 16 blocks for the top and sewn them together.

This photo is showing the border that I was auditioning, it is not attached yet. I hope to do that tomorrow before my quilting meeting. It is going to be tricky because we have yoga in the morning and car tire place in the afternoon. 

Aren't these colors something else?

The Perks of the Job

Hilton Head, SC- Sept 30, 2010

The 7 hour drive is so worth it! 

I will be photographing a wedding in Hilton Head this coming Saturday, so I am away from home -again. 

The visit with my daughter last week was extended by a day  (due to the airlines and bad weather).  So I was only home for one day instead of two.  But I did get a bunch of things done- like tennis, laundry, and buying a new vacuum cleaner.  Oh yes my life is filled - I am saturated by blessings and love at every turn. 

Mother nature has been busy too this week- let's just hope she has all that rain out of her system!

Gone Bonkers Clothing Store

New Smyrna Beach, FL-   Sept 14. 2010

The  "we don't really like to shop" duo was reunited once again for an undeniably successful shopping adventure. The duo was joined by a much more restrained and thoroughly amused  friend.  The merchants of both Blacksburg and New Smyrna Beach will be forever grateful for the entertainment we provided and our monetary support. Unfortunately I do not think my husband will allow me to attend any more shopping outings in the near future.

with some of my favorites tonight.

We found the best seats in the house-

and set our  beach chairs down.

While we ate dinner 

a steady wind off the water 

kept the hair out of our eyes.

Colors disappeared -

And we were surrounded 

by

   the sound

of crashing waves

and

the feel

of the luscious dark wind.
