I have always thought curves so beautifully embracing. So last year I made the decision to use curves as my focus word, I was quite pleased. I imagined "Curving into to a New Year" would lead me to photograph a series of beautiful curves.
One of the many handmade baskets I made this year-
I was barely able to write a dozen blog posts last year. I feel I got to know curves from "both sides"
(think- Both Sides Now- Joni Mitchell ).
(think- Both Sides Now- Joni Mitchell ).
Clinging to the curve in ways that were not elegant or embracing.
I crane my thoughts toward remembering this year. A long string of unwinding, on the outside of the curve, scrambling for a foot hold. Letting go in an effort of reckless reclamation. Forcefully inching along the outside edge - which continued to slide away in slow motion.
A year of free fall.
I tilt my head to the right and feel warm sunlight on the back of my neck, I shift remembering into knowing there were so many blessings as well.
When I chose to explore the word curve for 2013 I imagined graceful embracing curves.
Instead
upheaval
upheaval
A roller coaster cornering near the edge.
Still and cold on either side.
And once in a while a lovely ledge inside the structure of my heart.
And then a blessing - a curve of love and grace.
We will be grandparents in April 2014.
Even in the shadows there are hearts and blessings to be found-
Happy New Year everyone!

Your words and pictures are always a treat! Happy New Year! I became a mother-in-law in 2013! I wonder what big things 2014 holds. I always leave the old to embrace the new with such a blend of emotion.
ReplyDeleteHi Teri!!! What a nice surprise to see a post from you on my blogroll here!! ,,,,and what a beauty it is too. Just wonderful photos and thoughts and wow,,,,,Grandma soon to be,,,how coool it that!!! It will definitely be your year....joy awaits you my dear. Happy New Year to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteSo good to visit you again, Teri. I'm so happy for your daughter's pregnancy - that grand baby will change everyones' lives, that's for sure! I like the soft curves you've pictured - nothing there you can't navigate. Happy 2014!
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear from you! I'm afraid I neglected my poetry in 2013; and my journal posts have become less consistent as well. We just muddle through the best we can, right?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Teri! I hope your curves will be a bit less challenging this year!
ReplyDelete"Even in the shadows there are hearts and blessings to be found" could be the anthem for 2013, and your stunning photos tell the story. I will play the optimist and say 2014 will be a better year, while the snow blows in below zero temperatures outside my window.
ReplyDeleteAnd if all else fails, watch a movie. Our Netflix account is set up for streaming and DVDs - not everything is available through streaming, though I enjoy watching television series on the laptop. Our internet strength now barely meets their minimum standard so we can no longer stream Netflix through the Smart TV. It's always something:)
Beautiful and thoughtful. Have you chosen a word for 2014? :-)
ReplyDeletehow exciting looking forward to becoming a Grandma in the spring… I love all of your curve photos… life takes us on many unexpected journeys…some pleasant some unpleasant… all have something to teach.
