Photo fun Wednesday

Happy Wednesday Everyone!!

You have heard me go on about creativity. Creativity blends the life's contrasts; brings light to darkness. Creativity has in many forms. At the core, creativity is seeing a connection. Some times that seeing is enough. Other times we are compelled to find outward expressions.  Writing, sewing, drawing, knitting, biking, painting, quilting, cooking, gardening, walking, photographing, digital painting and we won't even go into the sciences. Life at is very core is creative, finding ways of being. Allowing blessings- giving and receiving.

I continue to honor my New Years resolution to expand my use of Photoshop. I have two images that I transformed by just using Photoshop filters. Below them I have images I transformed by the addition of many layers and filters.  Although I am busy with client work, I continue to really enjoy seeing where Photoshop will take me.

Added Note: I meant to mention- Photoshop is only one tool among many for photo editing... (thank you Karen from Pieces of Sunshine, for mentioning that you do not have Photoshop!). I have been using my outdated Photoshop CS3 for many years now only because that is what my husband used. I actually think many other editing programs would be a better fit for me. If you all have any ideas about this, I would love to hear them.

I am taking part in the Rendition Me This   Monthly art challenge
This is my digital rendition of Helen Trachy painting.

With the image below I used a few basic Photoshop filters; and a very tight, tight crop-

Of this photo.

I found this terribly exposed photo and gave it a new life. All Photoshop filters.

And this rose was given the Photoshop layers treatment. (I took the photo of the rose last year, on a rainy afternoon in my garden out back.)  I have been busy photographing my own layers. I added (a very light layer- by lowering the opacity and fill dramatically) of a close-up of an old stucco wall, in the Key West cemetery. I also added a photo close up  of the nubby texture of my couch.  I erased the layers (with the erasure tool) that were on the rose.

AND if all that is Greek to you... don't worry.  I have faith that whatever your creative outlet, you are having moments of great love and insight too  Blessings - teri

  1. You've shown some wonderful creativity with these images. You are doing beautiful things with your Photoshop layers and filters. I haven't tried creating my own layers -- perhaps I should give that a try.

  2. I like seeing your photo play, Teri. I've been learning some new photo software, too. Fun! I especially like the close cropping one.

    1. Barb- I think I am really drawn to the ultra close ups...and while I really enjoy them I always wonder if I need to explain them. Hmmmm -

  3. Editing and photography, quite distinct skills. I'm continually learning more about editing as I experiment, although I don't have photoshop.

    1. Karen- thanks so much for visiting AND for your comment! What programs do you use? I have added a note to my post that says. 2. I'm rather new to editing, only doing so for less than 12 months. Like you I have used what my husband already had on the computer which in our case was iPhoto. It was part of a software package we bought when we purchased our mac three years ago. My husband has never used iPhoto to edit, only as a library, but I began exploring with it last year. Last month we bought my first DSLR and my husband suggested we buy Aperture for editing which we did. So far I've only just begun working with it and only use it for some images. iPhoto is quick and easy to use for basic editing and I'm familiar with it.

I've just started shooting in RAW and this is where more advanced editing like Aperture seems to really have the edge over iPhoto. I've not looked into filters or layers, not sure I can even do those on Aperture, just working it out as I go. Must explore how to make collages one day too, maybe on Picasa?

  4. You "paint" with your camera:) I love your versions. I thought of you last evening as I cut apart a favorite calendar and put the pages in simple glass frames ~ lighter, brighter watercolors and words for the walls of my sewing room. I have been tearing rooms apart to paint ceilings and deep clean as I go. Lighter, brighter are my words this spring. Happy Friday to you!

  5. Photo fun Wednesday indeed! I have lots of photos - some of which are somewhat out of focus but I loved the colors and lines, some I took specifically because I loved the pattern (eg reflections from a chandelier on a wall), and others that have detail sections that work even though the whole thing doesn't. You've got me itching to get at them with Photoshop!
