Kitchen table, Blacksburg, VA- Jan 5, 2012
I have too much on my kitchen table; my wonderful, deep, apple-green, chopsticks might not match; I took my tree down before the magi came; my washing machine is leaking; and I am troubled by the question, "what excites you?", posed by in email I asked to receive.
So ok, just now, I paused to re-read the question- and it says, "What are the things that really excite you or inspire you?" Oh!!! Excite OR inspire. I can handle inspire. Can you believe how prickly I got over the word excite versus inspire? What is the deal with the word excite? Pausing...I will leave that one alone for now. I may not think much about being exited, but I love to find and create places that are filled with calm. So now everything is peachy, I have returned to not feeling less than because I shy away from excitement.
So now I am off, to fearlessly answer what inspires me. What inspires you?
By the way the second question is, "is there any unfinished business in your life?" That one is easy. It gets a resounding, "yes!" For starters, why don't I like the word excite?

well I know what excites me:)...this foto of the orchids!!! just gorgeous...I have six orchids sitting on my windowsill here....love the lost and found edges on your piece and that background is very "exciting".........
ReplyDeleteThere is something about the word "excite" - it could mean so many things, which I guess, begs the question "what excites you". But I love the word "inspire." It just seems more profound.
ReplyDelete"Thank-you,Cyn!" she said excitedly... I love my orchids.
ReplyDeleteJudy- as I ponder your response it dawn on me! I am afraid of what excites many of the people in my life. The best example is dear husband LOVES to ski. By ski I mean blacks, double blacks, off pist and being dropped off by helicopter on uncharted mountains. It terrifies me. This has been very illuminating- Thanks Judy!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny what pushes our buttons. Nothing would bother me except I'd probably be a little worried about the washing machine. Glad you're pausing.
ReplyDeleteTeri, you have really hit the ground running in this new year! Questions like that are going to keep you on your toes, on top of everything else that is going on:)
ReplyDeleteThere are words like "excite" that put me in a quandry, too. Something has to present itself before I know if it excites me or not. I do like the word inspire.
When more than one issue around water presents itself, I ask myself why ~ what does water represent and what is trying to get my attention? Hmmmmmmmm....
In the meantime I hope nothing else starts leaking:)
You delight me! You make my day. You help me and then you fret over the order of a few letters in a single word. You are an inspiration - a gentle whirl wind. Can you tell I'm feeling much better. In not so many words: I still have a job and the issue has resloved itself. And there I fretted over figuring out a resolution that I would not have been able to do if I hadn't paused!

Teri, you use chopstics, which excites me. (I wonder if I used the word "excite" properly. I meant "makes me very happy".) Nature never fails to inspire me.

Sharon- I had a feeling you may take the word excite in a similar way. And as for the continual appearance of water in unwanted places, I too stop (pause) to wonder about the significance. I see it as I am leaking energy into places that may not be serving me well.
ReplyDeleteJules- so nice to have you stop by, and with such uplifting comments and news. I am glad it all worked out- like Kermit the frog says, "It's hard to be green." (*) hugs
ReplyDeleteYoko- My whole family is proficient with chopsticks- we even have a chopstick collection. It is exiting to meet someone who is inspired by nature. Thanks for traveling all the way from Japan to be here!
ReplyDeleteI love this blog Teri and the interesting difference between excite and inspire. To a certain extent I can understand this. To me inspire is something much deeper and more spiritual than just excite but it's an interesting question.
ReplyDeleteI get inspired by the beauty that others create and share, such as beautiful orchids or pictures of them. Of course, a waterfall or sunset is also inspiring. At my age, just waking up each morning can be exciting.
